Mount NTFS Drives in Linux

Linux can read and write NTFS drives using the NTFS driver available in modern distributions. This is useful when accessing Windows partitions or external drives.

Identify the device

lsblk -f

Confirm the device name and filesystem type before mounting. Do not guess device names.

Create a mount point

sudo mkdir -p /mnt/windows

Mount the NTFS drive

sudo mount -t ntfs3 /dev/sdXN /mnt/windows

Replace /dev/sdXN with the correct partition shown by lsblk. On some older systems, the driver may be ntfs-3g instead of ntfs3.

Unmount when finished

sudo umount /mnt/windows
