This is a legacy note for Oracle 10g R2. The old companion-disk workflow is specific to that release and should not be treated as the installation method for current Oracle Database versions.
Oracle 10g R2 workflow
- Install the sample-schema components supplied for the 10g R2 release.
- Connect as a suitably privileged database user.
- Run the schema scripts under
$ORACLE_HOME/demo/schema. - Provide the requested tablespaces, passwords, and log locations when prompted.
The common sample schemas included HR, OE, PM, SH, and related examples.
For current Oracle releases
Use the sample-schema package and documentation that match your exact Oracle Database release. Oracle has changed the packaging and installation process over time, so do not reuse 10g scripts blindly on a newer database.
For training or development, consider a disposable database or container so sample objects do not mix with production schemas.
