This is a quick tip and i’m sure this is not the solution for everybody. But if your sound card doesn’t work, try to do this.
If you have a sound card like this
Multimedia audio controller: VIA Technologies, Inc. VT8233/A/8235/8237 AC97
and after install Ubuntu you can’t listend to sound… any sound at
all. You can try to mute the channel ‘IEC 958 Capture Monitor’.
To do this just run a mixer and search for this channel.
