Accessing Remote File Systems in Linux

Linux can access remote file systems in several ways. The right method depends on whether you need temporary file copy, interactive browsing, or a mounted network location.

Copy files over SSH

scp file.txt user@server:/path/to/destination/

For one-off file copies, scp or rsync over SSH is usually simpler than mounting a remote filesystem.

Mount with SSHFS

mkdir -p ~/remote-server
sshfs user@server:/remote/path ~/remote-server

Unmount it when finished:

fusermount -u ~/remote-server

For shared office or server environments, NFS and Samba/CIFS may be more appropriate, but SSHFS is useful for simple user-level access.
